Martyrs’ Day
This day commemorates the 45 Christian converts who were executed between 1885 and 1887 on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga II of Buganda for their faith. It is a significant public holiday, with thousands of pilgrims gathering at the Uganda Martyrs’ Shrine in Namugongo for prayers and celebrations. The day serves as a reminder of the courage and sacrifice of these martyrs, who are revered as saints in the Catholic and Anglican traditions.
